Animation Process_ The Adult Part

Introduction:

In this report, I will discuss the design and production of the adult scenes in an animated short film. The film features a young boy who travels through a time tunnel and reaches middle age. The animation undergoes a significant psychological change, and the overall style becomes more surreal. The adult scenes are set in an office, and the design style is similar to the young boy's room, with an exaggerated perspective. The scene is richly detailed, with colleagues working but ignoring each other, creating a contrasting atmosphere to the boy's empty room. The colours used are predominantly grey, indicating a more monotonous and dreary atmosphere than the childhood scenes. The clock on the wall symbolizes the boy's life trajectory, with its time altered to represent that he has passed the halfway point.

Design:

The adult scenes are designed to contrast with the childhood scenes, reflecting the psychological shift experienced by the main character.

The office scene is intended to be claustrophobic and surreal, with a lack of vibrant colours and a predominantly grey palette. The perspective is exaggerated, and the office is full of people but devoid of social interaction. The clock on the wall represents the boy's life trajectory, indicating that he has passed the halfway point. The scene is lit in a way that further emphasizes the oppressive atmosphere.

Production:

One of the keyframes in the animated short film is the scene where the main character travels through time again. The scene is divided into three parts: the fluttering of paper, the movements of the main character, and the movement of the clock's hands. Each part is produced as a separate project and combined using PR. To reflect the main character's changed mindset, his movements are designed to be relaxed, with arms outstretched as if he is controlling time. The fluttering of the paper is synchronized with the movement of the clock hands, with the colour scheme kept uniform to avoid competing with the main character's movements. The paper is also used to create transitional effects, with the fluttering paper obscuring the scene during transitions.

Conclusion:

The design and production of the adult scenes in the animated short film were intended to reflect the psychological shift of the main character, from childhood to middle age. The office scene is designed to be claustrophobic and surreal, with a lack of social interaction, emphasizing the oppressive atmosphere. The scene where the main character travels through time again was produced as three separate projects, with the fluttering paper and the movements of the clock hands used to create transitional effects. Overall, the adult scenes form a significant part of the film, reflecting the main character's psychological journey.
