Introduction:
In this part of the animation, the middle-aged man travels through a time tunnel to reach his old age, and the animation reaches its climax. This section also represents the biggest psychological change in the young boy's mind. The scene is set in the boss's office, which is where middle-aged men aspire to be. While maintaining the previous colour palette and design concept, I made changes to the size of the room. The elderly man's room is very narrow, surrounded by bookshelves and walls. There are many telephones on the bookshelves, which play a significant role in driving the plot and the old man's psychological state later on.
Design and Color Palette
For the furnishings, I changed the clock's hands to signify the old man's approach towards the end of his life. The colour palette used in the scene is brighter to create a sharp contrast with the later changes in the elderly man's mental state and the surrounding scenes. After the elderly man's mental state changes, I boldly use dark red colours to present the audience with the old man's madness and greed. I also changed the shape of the old man's shadow to resemble that of a demon.
In the final scene of the animation, an exterior view of a grave appears, telling the story of the old man's death caused by his forcing the demon to speed up time. The colour palette used for the exterior of the grave is warm, creating a sunset scene. The irregularly arranged graves with the warm red colour and falling bones create a contrast, enhancing the absurd atmosphere.
The Most Important Part-Time Travel
The most critical part of the old man's segment is his time travel, which is also the most ambitious part of the animation. I decided to create a long shot, carefully depicting the time tunnel scene around the old man. The documents float around him, surrounded by perpetual motion. Mechanical parts work in the distance, and at the end, the brightest clock hand points to midnight, compared to the hour hand, which has just departed. This symbolizes the old man's imminent approach towards the end of his life. In terms of motion design, the documents and the old man's clothing move together to reflect the animation's fluidity. To enhance the animation's smoothness, I also increased the frame rate to 15 frames per second. When the old man is consumed by time and turned into bones, I spent a lot of time depicting the scene of his body disappearing.
Conclusion
In summary, the animation's most challenging part is the old man's segment, especially the time travel scene, which is the most ambitious. The design and color palette used in this part of the animation help create contrast and enhance the absurd atmosphere. The attention to detail in the animation, including the movement of documents and clothing, creates a sense of fluidity.
